UNITAR/DCP reported its past and future activites to the Steering Committee

Geneva, Switzerland, 11-12 May 2006. UNITAR/DCP organized its annual Steering Committee for the 3rd time on 12 May 2006 at UNITAR headquarters in Geneva. All of DCP’s partners were invited to review the past activities and to discuss this year’s programmes. Over sixty people representing national governments, United Nations programmes and agencies, local and regional authorities and local authorities networks, multilateral institutions, the private sector, and NGOs participated in this event.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Boisard, Executive Director of UNITAR and UN Assistant Secretary-General, followed by the principal programme coordinator of DCP, Mr. Hoarau who presented the action plan for 2006. Then participants had a chance to review the CIFAL activities for 2005 and the results of CIFAL Network meeting which was held in the previous day. It is notable that there was a significant increase in the number of workshops as well as the participants in the year 2005. The number of participants increased from 600 in 2004 to 2,600 in 2005. The financial contributions has also increased last year. Many partners expressed their interests in and renewed commitment to DCP.
