CIFAL Shanghai will hold a workshop on e-Governance in October

About 30 people from China as well as other countries in the Asia-Pacific region are expected to participate in this workshop.

Shanghai, P. R. China, 16-19 October 2006. CIFAL Shanghai will hold a workshop on "e-Governance: Digital Local Agenda" as a follow-up of the Second World Summit of Cities and Local Authorities on the Information Society (Bilbao Summit 2005). The workshop will gather officials from cities and regions within China as well as from other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Thanks to the financial support by the Basque Public Institutions of Spain and Alcatel Shanghai Bell, about 30 participants will take part in this workshop.

It is held in conjunction with the 6th Annual Forum on City Informatization in the Asia-Pacific Region (CIAPR VI), co-organized and sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). The participants of UNITAR/CIFAL Shanghai’s workshop will have an opportunity to attend the first day of the CIAPR on the 18th. Please see the preliminary agenda (PDF, 56.8 kb) for more information.

CIFAL Shanghai finished its pilot phase last year and this is the fist workshop after the official approval of the establishment of CIFAL Shanghai by the Chinese central government. The main focus of this centre has been the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for local government, but it will broaden the topic of training workshops to various issues such as environment protection and sustainable economic development.
