CIFAL Shanghai officially launched


Shanghai, P.R. China, 16 October 2006. After one year of its pilot phase, the establishment of CIFAL Shanghai was officially approved by the Chinese government and it was launched at the occasion of the second workshop on "e-Governance" from 16 to 19 of October 2006.

During the pilot phase in 2005, CIFAL Shanghai organized a workshop on e-Administration in February, gathering 30 Vice-Mayors and Vice-Governors from all over China. Then the Asia-Pacific regional conference for the Bilbao Summit also took place in CIFAL Shanghai last year.

The morning of the first day of the workshop on e-Governance was dedicated to the opening ceremony of CIFAL Shanghai. Mr. Zhou Weidong, Secretary-General of Shanghai Municipal Informatization Commission opened the ceremony, followed by the keynote addresses by Mr. Nicolas Frizon de Lamotte, Senior Programme Coordinator of DCP, UNITAR and Mr. Guan Jingzhi, Executive Vice President of Alcatel Shanghai Bell.

signing ceremony Then the agreement of cooperation between the Shanghai Regional Cooperation Office for City Informatization (RCOCI) and UNITAR was signed by Mr. Frizon de Lamotte and Mr. Cai Weijie, Director of Shanghai Internet Economy Consulting Center, which marked the official opening of the centre.

CIFAL Shanghai will organize workshops on various issues, not only related to e-Governance from next year.
