CIFAL Curitiba: a new strategy for Brazil and Latin America

UNITAR and CIFAL Curitiba organized a joint mission to Brasilia on 4-8 september to strengthen strategic partnerships in Brazil. The IX Training Session of CIFAL Curitiba took place on 13-15 September in Curitiba, with a focus on Urban Transport.

Representatives of DCP and the municipality of Curitiba organized a joint mission to Brasilia to strengthen local and global partnerships in support of the capacity-building initiative for local authorities from Latin America and the Caribbean to promote the “localization” of the MDGs. CIFAL Curitiba will increase its role in support of south-south cooperation between cities in the region and with cities in Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa and Asia. Main areas of work include urban planning, environmental management and access to basic services for all. A cooperation agreement was signed between UNITAR and the Frente Nacional de Prefeitos (FNP) gathering the largest cities of Brazil. The Centre will officially contribute to the preparation of the next Summit of Latin American Local Authorities to be held in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro.
