About DCP

Overview of the Decentralized Cooperation Programme (DCP)

The Decentralized Cooperation Programme (DCP) of UNITAR provides training to local actors in order to enhance their capacity to implement international conventions and the Millennium Development Goals.

Recognizing and promoting the role of local authorities in achieving international development goals locally is the core of our mission.

DCP is a hub for information, communication, and training between United Nations Agencies and local actors such as local authorities, public and private companies, civil society and academia.

The training sessions for local authorities focus on four major areas:
- Environment and Sustainable Development
- Urban Services
- Economic Development and Local Governance
- Human Security

The seminars are implemented through a network of regional associated training centres, the CIFAL Centres (CIFAL: Centre International de Formation des Autorités/Acteurs Locaux – International Training Centre for Local Authorities/Actors).

CIFALWEB is an online decision-making tool for local authorities. It provides information on technical solutions and institutional mechanisms for public-private partnerships to guarantee access to basic services in urban areas.
